Okuma SST 10’6″ Big River Plunking Combo
If you’re plunking for salmon in large rivers, this is a great option. We pieced this combo together for targeting salmon & steelhead in large rivers with heavy flows, where casting long distances with heavy sinkers is the norm. This would be perfect for rivers like the Columbia, Snake, Willamette, and any other large West Coast river where launching a 4-16 ounce pyramid sinker is necessary to land in the travelling lane.
The Rod
Okuma SST 10’6″ 2-piece, with an extra heavy action and line rating of 20-60 lbs and capable of casting 4-16 ounce sinkers. Carbon fiber grip sits nicely in a rod holder.
The Reel
We chose the Okuma Coldwater Line Counter, which has ample line capacity, a solid drag and casts heavy sinkers well. Being able to gauge how far out you’re fishing is important when you get bit and want to land back in the same area on your following cast. Choose from right-hand or left-hand retrieve.
The Line
If mono/copolymer lines are your preference, we can spool it up with P-Line CXX Strong, however more are choosing a braided mainline, which allows for longer casts with lighter sinkers, and less drag in the current. Choose your preference above before checking out.
